LAS VEGAS -- Christian Yelich slid home ahead of the throw on an infield grounder in the 12th inning, giving the Milwaukee Brewers a wild 15-14 comeback victory over the Athletics on Monday in the opener of a three-game series in Las Vegas, the future home of the A's.
Yelich, the automatic runner, stole third to open the 12th. Jose Suarez (0-2) struck out Jackson Chourio, but Yelich then scored on Brice Turang's fielder's-choice grounder.
Milwaukee's Chad Patrick, who relieved to open the 12th, stranded the tying run at third for his third save. Abner Uribe (4-2) got the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in a 4-hour, 14-minute game.
Neither team scored in the 11th after each scored four times in the 10th.
William Contreras belted a three-run homer to cap the top of the 10th, putting the Brewers up 14-10.
The A's tied it in the bottom half off Aaron Ashby, who entered 9-0 on the season. Shea Langeliers had a two-out RBI single and Nick Kurtz followed with a two-run homer, his second of the game and 14th of the season. Pinch hitter Jonah Heim tied it with his fourth homer.
The A's pounded out seven homers and the Brewers four at the hitter-friendly home of the Athletics' Triple-A affiliate.
Tyler Soderstrom also homered twice, including a three-run shot, for the A's, who got solo homers from Zack Gelof and Langeliers. Turang, Andrew Vaughn and Jake Bauers also homered for Milwaukee.
The series with the Brewers will be followed by three A's games in Las Vegas against the Colorado Rockies. The Athletics, currently playing the bulk of their home games in West Sacramento, Calif., are scheduled to move permanently to Las Vegas when their new stadium opens in 2028.
The Brewers tied it 10-all in the ninth on Vaughn's two-run double. Milwaukee, which trailed 8-4 after three innings, scored on a wild pitch to pull within 10-8 in the eighth.
The A's chased Brewers starter Kyle Harrison in a six-run third. Max Muncy, activated off the IL earlier Monday, tied it 4-all with a two-run, bases-loaded single. Soderstrom followed with a three-run homer, his ninth. Gelof's seventh homer ended the shortest outing of the season for Harrison, who allowed a career-high eight runs in 2 1/3 innings.
Kurtz made it 9-5 in the sixth with a homer off former teammate Joel Kuhnel, acquired from the A's on Saturday.
Bauers hit a two-run homer in the seventh, his 12th, pulling Milwaukee within 9-7. Soderstrom made it 10-7 with a blast in the bottom half.
The Brewers went up 4-2 in the third on Turang's two-run homer, his 10th, and Vaughn's solo homer, his second.
After the Brewers scored one in the first, Langeliers sent the first pitch from Harrison over the wall in left-center for his 17th homer.
