ALGIERS, 4th May 2025 (WAM) -- A delegation from the Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council (FNC) is participating in the 38th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), currently being held in Algiers, the capital of Algeria.
Hashima Yasser Ali Saeed Al Afari, member of the FNC Parliamentary Division, chaired the meeting of the Committee on Social Affairs, Women, Children, and Youth after being elected to the position.
During the committee meeting, the FNC Parliamentary Division reaffirmed that, in light of growing challenges facing Arab women, the UAE continues its pioneering efforts in supporting and empowering women. In March 2024, the UAE signed a strategic partnership with UN Women, committing US$15 million over 3.5 years to support the UN Women Liaison Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to advance global women's empowerment initiatives.
The FNC Parliamentary Division underscored the importance of enhancing joint Arab parliamentary work by promoting parliamentary diplomacy, which has become a cornerstone of international relations.
It also called for practical and concrete steps to develop the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union's structure and operational mechanisms.
The FNC Parliamentary Division emphasised the need for cooperation, coordination, and consultation, as well as the strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy across all regional and international forums. It also called for the creation of strategic partnerships and the establishment of communication channels and dialogue with international parliamentary and geopolitical organisations and blocs.
